El Informe Anual 2009 de EU-OSHA subraya el valor a largo plazo de la seguridad y la salud en el trabajo en tiempos de dificultad económica y anima a los empresarios a encontrar alternativas al despido. Entre los aspectos más destacados del trabajo de la Agencia en 2009 figuran la encuesta ESENER, la campaña de evaluación de riesgos y el concurso europeo de fotografía.

Beyond the laboratory, humans, animals and plants are never subject to single chemicals in set doses. In the real world we are all exposed to an intricate cocktail of chemicals and other stressors which can interact to produce toxic effects that are difficult to predict. This thematic issue explores research which will help decision makers overcome some of the challenges associated with assessing the combination effects of chemicals.
The articles offer easy-to-read summaries of key studies in the field, to give a comprehensive view of the latest developments. They explore topics including:
• A new biology-based approach for assessing mixture toxicity
• How chemical mixture assessments could be incorporated into EU policy, such as REACH
• A screening tool to protect human health from combination effects, under development in the US
Current regulatory approaches to assessing chemicals usually evaluate single substances, chemical by chemical. However, there are concerns that this approach is insufficient and that the combination effects of chemicals should be addressed in a more systematic way. The Council of the EU adopted conclusions on combination effects in December 2009, which acknowledge these concerns and invites the European Commission to assess how and whether this problem is addressed by existing legislation.
Science for Environment Policy is a free news service designed to strengthen links between environmental research and policy. Combination Effects of Chemicals is the twenty-first in a series of special Thematic Issues which take an in-depth look at issues high on the policy agenda. It is guest-edited by Dr Hans Løkke of Aarhus University, Denmark.

La Ley de Responsabilidad Ambiental llega al sector del transporte de Mercancías peligrosas. La póliza de responsabilidad ambiental es también exigida para este tipo de transporte.Los transportes de mercancías peligrosas o contaminantes (por carretera, ferrocarril, aguas fluviales, marítimo o aéreo) deberán obtener un seguro o aval con el objetivo de cubrir la responsabilidad derivada de dicha Ley.
En España se verán afectadas por esta Ley más de 30.000 empresas de transporte de mercancías peligrosas. En algunos casos, si la empresa transportista dispusiera de un sistema de gestión medioambiental ISO 14001 o de un sistema de gestión y auditoria medioambientales EMAS, se contemplaría la posibilidad de eximirlas de suscribir la cobertura financiera.

Ha sido publicada la nueva UNE 23007-14:2009, que anula y sustituye a la antigua 23007-14:1996, utilizada hasta ahora.
Esta nueva revisión de la norma UNE23007-14:2009 está basada en la Especificación Técnica CEN/TS 54-14:2004, de la que adopta su estructura y parte de sus contenidos. Dicha Especificación Técnica CEN/TS 54-14:2004 fue preparada por el Comité Técnico CEN/TC 72 "Sistemas de detección automática de incendios", en colaboración con el CEA (Comité Europeo de Seguros), y con EUROALARM (Asociación de Fabricantes Europeos de Sistemas de Alarma contra Incendios e Intrusismo).
